My Role

I had a chance to wear many hats and was exposed to multiple roles. My main focus was UX Research, and UX Research Operation, in which I administrated research planning, screener designing, moderating interviews, led multiple co-design sessions, and data analysis for all major deliverables for stakeholders. Last but not least, I also contributed as a UX Designer creating a persona, Information Architect, and low-fi sketches.

Background

Colleague is centralized lesson plan platform for K-12 teachers. It's a platform that integrates the latest developments in educational technology, including an AI-powered smart recommender system, to empower K-12 teachers in their lesson planning process. It achieves this by helping educators identify high quality, standard-aligned lesson plans and instructional materials that can be customized to the unique needs of their students to improve learning outcomes.

Problems

It would be great to have a centralized platform where I can find resources in one place.
  • K-12 spend majority of their time searching for vetting instructional materials to ensure content meets learning standards.

  • K-12 teachers use a multitude of tools to complete their tasks which often requires manually transferring information.

  • K-12 teachers lack support in learning new educational platforms and tools.

The Process Overview

Combined the methodologies of Human-Centered Design Thinking to empathize with our users, define design goals, ideate solutions, prototype, and test our solution in a fluid instead of linear approach.

The Research Methods

Contextual Inquiry

During the sessions, teachers screen-shared and walked through their lesson planning process including their experience using online platforms and educational tools that aid in their teaching.

Competitive Analysis

Reviewed education platforms to identify product gaps, strengths and weaknesses, and main differentiators.

Co-Design Sessions with K-12 teachers

After discovering pain points, and needs, and identifying opportunities through our research, conducted remote co-design sessions with K-12 teachers.

Design Process

Created a low-fidelity prototype of the Colleague platform and re-invited six K-12 teachers from previous sessions to evaluate the prototype. After identifying and resolving usability issues, we iterated on the mid and high-fidelity prototypes.

Sketch and Storyboard

As part of the ideation process, sketched ideas and visualized them to explore our design concepts.

Flow and Scenario

Based on our research findings and ideation, designed an low-fidelity prototype and came up with five user flows.
